Autonomy of your child: We believe your baby was born with the incredible skills to ensure their developmentally appropriate function within your family and the world. It is our job to honor and respect those skills to allow your child to thrive.
Respect for your child: We believe your child has a unique way of functioning in this world and by respecting them, their strengths, and vulnerabilities, we can better support their development.
Respect for your family: We believe your family is unique and different from your neighbors. We believe this is beautiful, important, and part of a bigger design.
Freedom for you and your family: We believe you should have the freedom to choose the feeding method and system that works best for your unique family.
Purpose driven life: We believe you and your child have a specific purpose in this world and freedom with feeding will help you to find, pursue and accomplish that purpose.
The core of Bottles on Purpose is based in autonomy of the baby and recognition of their innate competence. Babies are incredible, strong, and capable. They communicate their needs clearly and it is our job to respect that, not manipulate them. Without this respect and understanding bottle feeding a breastfed baby will always end in failure. It’s why commonly used techniques like ‘distraction’ don’t lead to long term success. The integration of these two principles are based on the Newborn Individualized Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) by Heidelise Als. Her work transformed what we know about babies, how they communicate, and how to adapt our care based on their strengths and vulnerabilities. NIDCAP is woven into every layer of Bottles on Purpose.
Bottles on Purpose can be set apart because it intertwines various motor learning theories, neurodevelopment treatment, infant reflexes, activity grading, motivation and best practice bottle feeding recommendations, so every single step utilizes evidenced based medicine and proven treatment techniques. Bottles on Purpose then teaches all of this to families in less than 1 hour in a way that actually makes sense (ie: NONE of those words are actually said in the online webinars!) so families can incorporate it at home easily, quickly, and successfully.
Absolutely! Every detail of the Bottles on Purpose education has been specifically reviewed to ensure the success of both breastfeeding and bottle feeding, long term.
Yes! If your goal is for your baby to take a bottle, regardless if that is 2 times each week or transitioning completely to bottle feeding, this education will help you achieve your goal!
Bottles on Purpose doesn't utilize any tricks, manipulation, coercion or forcing. What makes the comprehensive Bottles on Purpose education unique is it utilizes the strengths of your baby’s natural oral feeding skills. By utilizing their normal reflexes, behavior and developmental progression you allow your babies natural feeding skills to simply take over.
Bottles typically don’t make any difference with successfully supporting your baby to take a bottle. In fact, they often make it worse. You will be walked through why this is true and what bottle actually supports you baby's oral motor skills best, not what manufacturers want you to think.
The pre-screening questions were designed to ensure a baby's success. (No one likes wasting time, money or energy on something that isn't going to work!) If your baby does not fall within the question answer parameters, we still have support for you! My daughter had been exclusively breastfed until I was preparing to return to work. We had begun trying bottles about 2 weeks prior and she wanted nothing to do with them. I felt like we had tried everything!
After watching your training videos, I realized we had been doing a lot of things right, but were missing a piece. I decided I would initiate the experience and she took 3 oz on the first bottle! She took 2 more 2 oz bottles during the day, and has already taken 3 oz today.
I am so relieved! I have loved being able to breastfeed and plan to continue, but it’s so nice to know that she will be able to eat well when I can’t be with her.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, we are so grateful.
